Updated Quarantine Guidelines

Updated Quarantine Guidelines

On November 12, Governor Parson’s announced updated guidelines for all K-12 schools in Missouri. The revised guidelines are designed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to reduce the number of students and employees from being quarantined.  However, in order for districts to utilize the updated guidelines, each district must adopt a mask mandate policy.  At a special board meeting on November 23, the Doniphan R-1 Board of Education adopted a mask mandate policy.  The updated guidelines will be implemented, Monday, November 30, 2020.

What does this mean?

  • All students, Pre-K – 12th, and employees will be required to wear a face mask at school, on the bus, and at school sponsored activities unless medically exempt.
  • If a student and/or employee does provide a medical exempt, he/she will be quarantined 14 days if it is determined he/she is a close contact to a positive case.
  • Mask can only be removed while eating or participating in physical activity.
  • Proper mask wearing can prevent students and/or employees from being identified as close contacts.
  • If both individuals – the person diagnosed with COVID-19 and the person exposed to the positive case -  are properly wearing a mask, the individual exposed does not need to quarantine if he/she is not exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.
  • If a close contact is wearing a mask but is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, he/she will be quarantined for 14 days.
  • It is important for close contacts to perform at-home screenings each morning before coming to school.
  • Students and employees should stay home if they have been tested, tested positive, or showing COVID-19 symptoms
  • Symptoms include but are not limited to:
  • Fever of 100.4 or higher and/or chills
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • New runny nose or congestion
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

Virtual Option

The district offers a virtual option for students who are not comfortable wearing a mask.  If you choose to enroll in our virtual program, please contact the appropriate building office.

Sporting Events and Extracurricular Activities

Due to the increase of cases in our county and in our school system, the Board adopted policy will pertain to all extracurricular activities including sporting events.  Everyone, including spectators, who attend an extracurricular activity will be required to wear a face mask.  This decision was made to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to avoid having to limit the number of spectators at an event.  The district wants everyone to attend any and all events they choose.  Therefore, we ask you to please abide by the policy and wear an appropriate mask.  We appreciate your cooperation.

Appropriate Face Coverings

According to the CDC, an appropriate mask:

  • Has two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric
  • Completely covers your nose and mouth
  • Fits snugly against the sides of your face and doesn’t have gaps
  • Gaiters should have two layers or should be folded to make two layers

Masks will be available for students, employees, and event spectators who do not have a mask.
